Dealing with Rejection

I am often asked how to deal with closed minded individuals and potential customers who are just nasty to deal with when approached.  I'm not talking about someone saying no.  I am talking about Nasty.  Bottom line up front, it just part of sales and this one is totally mental.  Do not let rejection from a closed minded individual discourage the growth of your business.  When I started my first home business, I was full of vinegar and ready to promote the program like a champion.  I was prepared to promote the business like no one had ever promoted it before.  After I spoke with a few acquaintances and made a couple of phone calls, I soon realized not everyone believed in the system as much as I did.  Not only that, but some of my contacts were reluctant to talk about it at all.  So, I pressed on.  Press on, there will be more.  There will be many, many more individuals interested in your opportunity or products.  Just don’t let the few ruin what the masses hold in true market potential.

If you are new to outside sales, internet marketing, MLM, or network marketing, you will face rejection.  It is part of the business and you have to understand it is OK.  It is ok because after you understand that most potential prospects have been approached before, failed in a similar opportunity or are just closed minded.  Rejection is tough.  Our human nature doesn’t like to be rejected.  If you have not made up your mind that your business is part of who you are now, go look in the mirror.  Let me say that again.  Your business is part of who you are.  Don’t let anyone discourage you from pressing on. 

Success follows persistence and many times failure.  Do not let someone else’s opinion of your product or opportunity stop you from being successful.  I know I keep saying it but you have to burn this one in your brain.  Think of it this way.  If you are rejected by a prospect, they did you a favor.  It was a training lesson.  After they are gone or you leave, think about what they said and prepare yourself for the next time someone fires a derogatory remark at you about your good or service.  If you found this webpage by searching for “facing rejection as a sales person,” enjoy my favorite excerpt from “The man in the arena” by Theodore Roosevelt, the 26thPresident of the United States, at his speech at the Sorbonne, Paris France on April, 23 1910:

Continue to believe in your product, good or service.  Let your critic reject you.  Press on my friend.  You will be the one laughing all the way to the bank.  Remember, this is your job.  You are doing it for you and your family.  You are in the Arena.  Expect to get dirty.  Expect to fight.  Anything worth doing takes time, a great deal of effort, and a certain amount of rejection.
