I have found this true-ism, if you will, applies to just about any goal you can muster.  It applies to any dream, wish or inclination of your hearts desire.  I have always heard it takes a student eight years to become a doctor.  It took me four years to get my undergraduate degree and another year and a half to get my graduate degree.  Flight school in the U.S.Army was a year plus and a myriad of other schools after that.  Thinking back on it, it was definitely a journey with stops along the way.  There was an exam, a paper due, check ride, or group project due at every turn.  After many months, the journey ended with graduation day.  Some dropped out, got kicked out, lost interest, or just gave up.
